The 125th Inf. Div:

The Division was formed in October 1940 in the Stuttgart area. It finished it's initial exercise and field training period the Autumn/Winter of 1940/41.

In the Russian campaign it was first engaged in the Vinnitsa area and within the first two months had already suffered over 2100 dead and wounded. In the winter of 1941/42 the 125th had penetrated the enemy lines as far as Mius.

In 1942 the division was involved in the attack of the important industrial city of Rostov, the starting point of the ill-fated Caucasus-Stalingrad offensive.

On the 24th July 1942 the Supreme Command of the German Army (Wehrmachtsbericht) made the following

signal:
"...troops of the German Army including the Waffen SS, Slovakian forces and with the outstanding support of the Luftwaffe, have broken through the strong and deeply defended enemy positions around Rostov and have captured the vital transport and port center."

Diorama construction

My Diorama shows the attack preparations of an engineer unit as part of the attacks of the 125th InfDiv on the strongly entrenched Russian positions.

The mortars have already fired at the enemy positions while the squad leader gives his orders to the crew about new targets.

Figures

Figures and vehicles used: T-34 from Zveda, Tamiya German mortar, 2x Dragon Engineer troops (Sturmpioniere) plus Dragons "German infantry, Kursk 1943". One can clearly see the difference between the older figures and the latest Dragon releases.
